Google Maps Malaysia at No Black Tie
Recently I just got a DSLR and I’ve been longing to cover this kind of events for a long time so here goes.
Google has launched a localised version of its Google Maps for Malaysia and held a networking session. No mistake it was held in No Black Tie as there was a gigarntuan Pin at the entrance.

First part Introduction was done By Andrew Mcglinchey.

I’m not much of a writer. While you enjoy the pics head out to colin’s article for another perspective of the event *grin*.

Vinny did the second part. I didn’t get to understand the use of the mapplets when they introduce it. But after snooping around the sites that vinny introduced I begin to get the picture.

A map’s purpose is determined by the person holding the map. While google provides an unbiased point of view of the map, what you can do with mapplet is to create your own point of view of the map and share it with like minded people. For example if you like cake then you can create a density map showing which area has the most cake shops. It’s the kind of info I’d be happy to know :D.

virtualmalaysia.com showed what they did but I didn’t get to find their app yet .Can anyone point it out where its at? Can we do an overlay like the fun maps we used to have? I kind of enjoyed it. Ironic as it is, isn’t fun maps easier to show to people when you’re asking directions. hehe. http://travelmalaysiaguide.com/penang-pulau-pinang/.
After that we just chilled and mingled around enjoying the food, beer and lovely ambience.
I would have loved to take everyone photos that day. But I only managed to take a few more and even then some are destroyed by my noobness in photography. The pics are in my photoset at flickr. I’ll be at the Malaysia Open Source Conference 2009 So I’ll take more pics there :D.
Update: We also took a video but I haven’t manage to upload it yet. Let you guys know when we’ve youtube’d it.
