Google technology user group meetup KL june 2009

Last Saturday I had the chance to go to the first GTUG KL meetup.

It starts with nazrul giving a talk on android and its potential. Head out to android market and you can see what other developers have been up to.

Next my favourite session is lightning talk. I’ve always liked lightning talk; like a box of chocolate ~ you never know what you’re gonna get.

First up was Kegan who showed us his two apps that use google map extensively. I have met kegan once before during the google map malaysia launch. He mentioned that he was working on this site, www.malaysiacrime.com but I didn’t get the chance to google it. Now that I’ve seen it, putting aside the fact that crime is a serious matter I think the site is AWESUM. Another app that we saw is the high resolution aerial photography site. But I can’t find it. Anyone have the url? He then presented 5 things to know when developing google map API. Here is the slide.

@Razlan Had a very,very interesting story on how he end up with a G1 ( see his review on it) and how he got to know about GTUG.

@tekong Presented his officeKami site. He is the lightning talk winner by the way.Check out what he won, Congrats!! At that time I had to put a tiny reminder to myself that I haven’t shared my favourite secret hideout yet.

Harmesh did a sketch on google sketchup. Google Sketchup is a tool that I’ve been exploring for quite some time but never had the chance to use it nor do I have any project that required it, NOT until I stumbled to a duh! moment yesterday! According to conceptart.org forum, it turns out that sketchup will be a great help in creating more fantastic concept art!

to be continued .. thats all I remembered, there’s more but my SD card is inside my wii for now… I remembered JSON how can i forget my GAEapps by @cheeaun .. , marvin lee did open social, colin charles did google site - a poor man’s version of an access database ( haha I’ll try that) ..
